Open House
Open House is a home, studio, gallery and a venue for events. The structure is located in the Leschi residential neighborhood of Seattle with views looking east towards Lake Washington and the I-90 bridge.
Open House is a raw shell designed to readily adapt to changing seasons, occupant and use. A massive hydraulic aircraft door on the east face of the building can open to transform the living area into outdoor space on a warm day, or to cool a large crowd. The ground level lounge connects to the outdoor covered space with a large glass sectional door creating a seamless sheltered space for gatherings or an expansive space for kids to play on soggy Seattle days. This indoor outdoor connection allows a “mobile room” to roll from interior to exterior providing alternative sleeping configurations and play opportunities.
Sculpture, poetry, photography, and projections provide a changing set of installations on the floor, walls and ceiling.
